Wolfpack Pulse Check: The Power of Belief

The Washington Wolfpack are turning heads in Arena Football One, and Coach JR Wells is feeling every bit of it.
In a recent conversation, Wells couldn’t hide his emotion after two Wolfpack standouts earned AF1 Player of the Week honors on offense and defense in the same week.
“Right now it just gives me chills,” he said. “It’s just again, trusting the process.”
That process is clearly working. Coach JR and the Wolfpack have put together a locker room full of passion and unbreakable character. Exactly the “we guys, not me guys” mentality Wells has preached since I first spoke with him. Players who aren’t chasing individual stats. Instead, they’re focused on doing their one-eighth so the guy next to them can succeed. Offensive lineman Donovan Hardin summed it up perfectly when he said, even on touchdown celebrations, the skill players make sure the big guys up front get to share the moment.
Every player I spoke with, from guys who played at Alabama to those who worked under Pete Carroll, had the same message. Coach JR is the best coach they’ve ever had. Not just on the field, but in life. They’ve told me how Coach works to help make them better men.
Wells nodded in appreciation. “It's a bigger than football kind of deal.”
Nowhere is that philosophy clearer than with quarterback Jaive. Wells raves about his patience, blue-collar work ethic, and the genuine relationship they’ve built. Even after taking a brutal shot that left him bleeding in one game, Jaive's only response was, “It’s cool, coach. We’re #WC. Who cares? What’s the next play?”
Kentucky On Deck
With the schedule flipping from Oregon to Kentucky, Wells stayed true to the Wolfpack mantra.
“It's back to #WC, who cares? We want the smoke.” The team sits at .500 and in the thick of the playoff race, but their focus hasn’t changed. They’re not worried about who’s across from them. Instead, they're focused on executing, staying healthy, and continuing to stack wins one game at a time.
“I’m so proud of these guys,” Wells said. “They’re working, man.”
The Wolfpack aren’t just winning games. They’re building something real, and the chills are just the beginning. Don't miss out on the excitement and get your tickets for this weekend, today!
