Wolfpack Pulse Check: Coming Off The Bye Week

Wolfpack Pulse Check: Coming Off The Bye Week

The Washington Wolfpack are getting ready for their second game of the season. They will hit the road to take on the Nashville Kats on Saturday at 4 Eastern in the F&M Bank Arena. Both teams have only played one game so far. Washington dropped the home opener to the Lightning while the Kats rolled on Michigan. It will be a tough test for the Wolfpack, but they’ll be ready for it.

Bye Week In Week 2

The Wolfpack had a bye week right away after their home opener. Last week while other teams made their first or second starts, the Wolfpack got to already take a look at what didn’t work and to work on fixing it. Some teams may not like the bye week right away. Head Coach JR Wells, however, does like it. He views that first game against Oregon almost as a preseason game.

“Being able to go through what we call a preseason game and see what pieces and parts we have, what we need to work on, fix, evaluate, and all those things. Then, going into the bye week, we get to critique those things, film study, and training, it’s a good thing for us.”

Faster Moving

One thing Coach Wells knows the Wolfpack needs to do is move the ball with more urgency. Vincent Espinoza went just 3 for 9 for five yards, while Adam Kruse was 8 for 20. It will be interesting to see what the Wolfpack does at quarterback this weekend against a very talented Kats team.

“The most important thing in this arena game is getting the ball out of your hands. It’s unfortunate that we held the ball so much in Week 1. That’s not a recipe for success. We are reevaluating what we have and who we have that’s going to be leading this offense, just to remind everybody that’s in that quarterback room, hey, we gotta get rid of the ball, we have to get rid of the ball in space, and feed the beast (FTB).”

Tough Test

Coach Wells knows that the Kats will be a tough test for the Wolfpack, but they are ready for it. He’s very aware of how lethal their quarterback, Tyler Kulka, can be. Last week against the Michigan Arsenal, Kulka went 14/18, for 258 yards, and six touchdowns.

“It’ll be great to see him again, play him at his home arena, and return the favor for what they brought to us last year,” Coach Wells said of Kulka.

The game will be aired on VICE TV at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, 4 PM local time for the Kats.
