Wolfpack Dominate Lightning 73-19 For Second Win

The Washington Wolfpack hit the road for their second-straight road game to take on the Oregon Lightning on Saturday night at 6 PM. The Wolfpack showed up to play, looking to win their second straight game. They walked away with a 79-19 win.

First Quarter Slowness

To open the game, both offenses were a little slow as these two felt each other out. The Wolfpack defense held Oregon on its first drive. A sack by multiple players on the defensive line stopped their drive. They attempted a field goal, but it was no good.

Oregon’s defense also pressured Washington’s offense. On Washington’s first drive, Oregon hit Magalei, causing the ball to fly out of his hand. A defender grabbed it midair, forcing a turnover. However, the Washington Wolfpack defense held Oregon.

It wasn’t until there were just eighteen seconds left in the first quarter that there were finally some points. Dalton Cole had multiple scrambles and capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked, but Oregon took a 6-0 lead.

Second Quarter Explosion

The second quarter was a completely different story, especially for the Wolfpack. After a big catch by Quintavious Workman, Jaiave Magalei rushed for a 1-yard touchdown. The Wolfpack had a 7-6 lead. New kicker Luis Ferreira nailed the deuce on the next play, giving the Wolfpack a 9-6 lead.

The Pack defense pulled through in a big way on the very next play, sacking Dalton Cole and forcing a fumble. The Wolfpack recovered on the one-yard line. Jaiave Magalei added another rushing touchdown on the very next play. The extra point’s snap was low, preventing the kick. However, the Pack didn’t panic and ran it in for two, taking a 17-6 lead.

On the very next Oregon play, Dalton Cole threw an interception. Tywon Buckley intercepted and returned the ball for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, but the Pack held a 23-6 lead, scoring three touchdowns back-to-back-to-back.

Robert McCoy replaced Dalton Cole with 7:55 left to go in the first half. Cole was having his hand looked at. McCoy gave the Oregon Lightning a little spark, moving the ball down to the 10-yard line. On fourth down, the Pack were called for roughing the passer, giving the Lightning another chance from the fourth yard line.

McCoy hit Kris Lewis in the end zone after the roughing flag, pulling a little closer to Washington. The extra point made it a ten-point game with three minutes left in the first half. The Pack had a 23-13 lead.

It didn’t take long for the Woflpack to answer. On the first play of their drive, Jaiave Magalei hit a wide open Tyler Stephens for a touchdown. The extra point had a fumbled snap, keeping the Pack’s lead of 29-13.

To close out the half, Oregon’s defense never let Robert McCoy breathe in the backfield, sacking him multiple times. Oregon tried an extra point and missed. Byron Edwards caught it off the net and returned it all the way for a touchdown! The Pack took a 35-13 lead into the half.

Second Half Domination

The Wolfpack received the ball first to start the second half. Jaiave Magalei ran for a huge touchdown, but the play was called back due to a personal foul. The flag went the other way on the next play, as Quintavius Workman was held, giving the Pack an automatic first down. Jaiave Magalei hit Deshon Williams on the next play for a touchdown, taking a 41-13 lead.

Robert McCoy had Oregon driving a field. However, he then threw a pick-six to Byron Edwards, giving Edwards his second touchdown of the day. The two-point conversion was no good, but the deuce was. Washington had a 49-17 lead with 7:48 left in the third quarter.

The Washington defense was simply on fire tonight. After allowing McCoy to complete one pass, Machiah Lee stepped in front of the next and intercepted it. It didn’t take the offense long before Jaiave Magalei hit Deshon Williams for the touchdown and then Aakiel Greer for the two-point conversion. Washington had a 57-13 lead as the end of the third neared.

The defense must have been angry. Eugene Ford scooped up a fumble by Oregon and returned it for a touchdown. The touchdown extended the Wolfpack's lead to 63-13. The play was reviewed and reversed, calling it not a fumble.

However, the Wolfpack defense answered again, intercepting the ball and returning it for a touchdown. It was Byron Edwards again, now extending the lead 63-13. The defense never let up, sacking Robert McCoy in the endzone for a safety, extending to 65-13.

With 11 minutes left in the game, Eric Phoenix came in to let Jaiave Malagei take the rest of the night off, given the large lead. Phoenix drove the team down the field and hit Tyler Stephens for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good, and the Wolfpack had a 73-13 win.

Oregon showed a little life with three minutes left in the game. Dalton Cole returned to the game and ran for a touchdown to give them their first score since the second quarter. They missed the two-point conversion, trailing 73-19. Washington didn't let up as Phoenix hit a wide-open MJ Manuel for a touchdown, extending their lead.
