Training Camp Notebook: “Rippin and Ridin”

It’s less than two weeks until the first game of the season for the Wolfpack. Head Coach JR Wells is fired up and ready to go. Training camp keeps plugging along, and JR had this to say: “We’re days away from being able to unveil what the Wolfpack have going on.” The Wolfpack have been “Rippin and Ridin” through training camp, JR said. Coach Wells loves the intensity and competition he’s seen between the team, but knows they are ready to get out on the field and compete against the Oregon Lightning, the first team on the schedule for 2026.

Quarterback competition

The Wolfpack have three quarterbacks in camp. Vincent Espinoza, Adam Kruse, and Giovanni Sanders. Coach Wells kept his cards close to the vest when I asked him if one quarterback had a leg up thus far in camp. “That leadership quarterback position is a tough position to fill,” Wells said. He continued, “They are all doing a great job during this camp, really working and grinding.” There is a big scrimmage looming on Friday for the team that’ll answer a lot of questions, and Coach Wells is really looking forward to it.

While Coach wasn’t willing to spill the beans on his starter just yet, he is very excited about who his quarterback will be throwing the ball to. Wells goes out of his way to praise his wide receiver group. “We have a lot of weapons on the outside with Q (Quintavius Workman) and AG (Aakiel Greer).” “We also have some awesome guys who are competing for that third receiver spot, which is really tough as well.”
