Deshon Williams and Byron Edwards Earn AF1 Weekly Awards

After a convincing Week 10 win against the Oceanside Bombers, the Washington Wolfpack put up a dominant performance in the Weekly Awards for Arena Football One. Wide receiver Deshon Williams earned AF1 Offensive Player of the Week and defensive specialist Byron Edwards earned AF1 Defensive Player of the Week. Both Williams and Edwards posted dominant performances against the Bombers and helped propel Washington to their 43-30 win.

DESHON WILLIAMS LEADS THE OFFENSE

Offensively, it seemed like each time Deshon Williams touched the ball he found the endzone. He posted a dominating performance with six catches for 155 yards and four touchdowns. Both his yardage and touchodwns were career bests. In his third season of Arena Football, Williams has posted a career best 11 receiving touchdowns through five games. His 418 yards have him on pace to shatter his career best yardage total as well.

“Deshon has been a monster, from the moment he came in, he’s been a force on the field making plays for us,” said Head Coach JR Wells. “He’s there, he makes plays, he goes to work each and every day. I cannot say enough about him as a leader, he lets his play do the talking and leads by example.”

Throughout the game, Williams worked open on routes, fought to make contested catches, and broke tackles after securing the catch. His epic catch and runs provided momentum boosts for the Wolfpack throughout the contest. Earning the AF1 Offensive Player of the Week caps a stellar week for Deshon and the Pack Offense.

BYRON EDWARDS SPECTACULAR ON DEFENSE

Byron Edwards has been a tone setter for the Washington Wolfpack defense. On the season, the Wolfpack are second in points against per game, only behind Nashville, and have been generating turnovers at a steady pace. Leading the charge on the field is only a fraction of the impact that Edwards delivers.

“Byron Edwards is establishing himself as a defensive player of the year candidate,” said Coach Wells. “He’s that good in training, and it makes our offense better. He competes in every game, and we’re lucky to have a guy like him leading the way and being a captain.”

Edwards’ Week 10 performance against the Bombers was one of his best so far. With nine tackles, one tackle for loss, three pas breakups, two interceptions, and a defensive touchdown, Byron helped to turn the tide of the game in the second half. At halftime, the Pack trailed, but coming out in the second half, they held the potent Bombers’ offense to seven points. Edwards was at the core of this effort.
